IP65 Rated Enclosures

IP65 rated enclosures provide basic protection in harsh environments.

Bud offers a broad line of IP65 rated enclosures in materials ranging from plastic to fabricated steel. Enclosures with the IP65 rating are suitable for outdoor use and for indoor applications where factory washdown may occur. (Plastic IP65 enclosures must be UV rated if used outdoors.) They are commonly used for enclosing industrial controls and housing electronics used in alternative energy, security/lighting, and agricultural equipment.

IP65 is a moderate level of ingress protection, providing strong protection against dust and moderate protection against water.

What Is an IP65 Rating ?

The International Electrotechnical Commission publishes a rating scale for ingress protection (IP rating). The first digit addresses particle protection; the second digit addresses water protection. In the case of IP65, the 6 means that the enclosure will experience no ingress of dust, and the 5 means moderate protection against low-pressure water jets. (A limited amount of water ingress is permitted.)

Corrosion resistance and UV protection are not covered by the standard.

When selecting an enclosure for an application, remember that, in most cases, a higher rated enclosure will work in an IP65 application. Bud has hundreds of models to choose from that are IP65 rated and above. In some cases, a higher rated enclosure may be just as affordable as an IP65 enclosure.

Examples of IP65-rated enclosures

A wide variety of Bud’s enclosures meet or exceed the IP65 standard. Here are some examples that show the breadth of Bud’s IP65 offering.

• The DCS Series Dual Compartment Enclosure is an ABS plastic box that features separate compartments. One compartment has a clear polycarbonate cover that allows for inspection without opening the enclosure. The other compartment is ideal for housing batteries, terminals, power supplies, etc.
• The NF Series features a hinged cover and fiberglass construction that is impervious to dents. A powder-coated steel internal panel is included to simplify component mounting.
• The PN Series is a popular line of affordable enclosures. Depending on the model, the enclosures are made of polycarbonate or ABS plastic. Some models are UV stabilized, making them suitable for outdoor use.
• The SN Series is a good example of a sheet-metal box that meets the IP65 rating. Fabricated of 14 gauge steel, an SN enclosure is both strong and environmentally sealed.

IP65 Rated Modifications and Accessories

Our robotic equipment rapidly makes holes and cutouts to your exact specifications. Other modifications include digital printing, custom colors, and pre-assembly.
